A Post

On Sunday October 25, 2009 at 9:46pm Aria Marie LaMonte-Bird was born (pronounced AH-ria, not AIR-ria). She came into the world weighing 3.3 kg (7 lb 4 oz) and measuring 52 cm (20.5 inches). She’s healthy, hungry, and seems have inherited her father’s curly hair (although hers is black), and her mother’s Cupid’s bow lips. Gin’s exhausted, contemplative, and tranquil. So far we’ve just been resting, learning more about each other, and getting used to the idea that our family has grown.

Dr. Jia and the staff at the hospital here in Shanghai have been very kind and supportive. We feel especially grateful to our midwife Anne for her knowledge, compassion, and caring support. Thank you also to Ryan and Maggie, Zhou ayi, and Anne’s husband for their help getting our clothes and baby supplies from Suzhou to Shanghai, as well as to Mark and Lyndal, and Eileen and Andrew for taking care of our dog Inca while we’re away.

We’ll add more details to our blog, including photos, as soon as we can.

Congratulations! These next few weeks will be exhausting but exhilarating for all 3 of you but enjoy them, you’ll never get the chance to be first time parents again. Imagine how Aria feels, seeing the world and the people who brought her here for the very first time!

Fantastic! Let me know hoe nursing goes for you. It’s not easy. I’m just reading a hilarious book about one woman’s experience with nursing “How my breasts saved the world” by Lisa Shapiro. I recommend it to put things in perspective and for a good laugh.

Lots of hugs to you three.

Gin, Ric and Aria, we are so excited to see the three of you next summer so we can meet Aria. Such euphoria for you! When you have a chance, maybe send me a brief timeline of how your exciting event took place (with certain discretions, of course!) Just the frenzied and exhilarating tidbits!

Hi guys. Thanks for your comment. I’m working on writing Aria’s birth story, but strangely these days I find myself with less time to write. But I am writing, slowly, so be patient and it’ll come.

Congratz guys. Funny that I should read this after having just actually met little Aria. But all the same, I wanted to say again how happy Mags and I both are, and how weird it is that in a bit more than 6 months we’re going to be going through the same thing!

I am so happy, I baked a 1/2 a deep freeze full of foods on Saturday and Sunday! Aria, you have chosen the most wonderful people to be your parents, and I am so happy to add my welcome to you! Well done, Gin! I would say get some well deserved rest, but I think that will happen in about 28 or 30 yrs. till then, enjoy the journey just begun, and both of you I know will take moments now and then to just breathe in the wonder of the miracle you were blessed to partake in……so much Love becomes so much more Love……
