A Post

In which the travelers have disturbing visions

We ate lunch at Bobo’s Restaurant again, then stumbled on a park beside the river, where bunches of neighborhood kids (mostly boys) were flying homemade kites. Some of their kites were so far up in the sky it was difficult to see them. Sitting on a bench, we watched a ragged band of children organize themselves for a tree top kite rescue. They tried yarding on the string and pulling it in different directions. Finally, a slightly older boy scaled the old tree’s trunk, and reached out to untangle the kite’s tail. He was several meters in the air, and we had horrible visions of the boy falling to the ground with a solid thud. Thankfully he was much more skilled at tree-climbing than our imaginations gave him credit for. In a few minutes both the kite and the tree were safely on the ground again.

We continued on our way, taking photos and exploring the city. We knew this is our last day in Hoi An, and we’re ready to say goodbye. Hoi An is a comfortable and casual city with a constant influx of tourists to meet and swap tips with. But after a while, like everywhere we stay, we feel ready to move on. Tomorrow we leave for Hanoi, where we’ll meet up with Nathan and Amy… hopefully without too much difficulty.
