In which the travelers relocate to Chiang Mai.
We finally arrived in Chiang Mai. Getting off the bus and into the truck that took us to our hotel was only mildly confusing. The good news is that we made it in one piece, with all our belongings.
The hotel seems well-organized and friendly. There is a large outdoor lounging area with wooden chairs and coffee tables; we expect most of our blogging will be conducted from one of these chairs. Internet here is cheap: 30 baht ($1) an hour, which is half what it was in hotels in Bangkok (although we don’t know if they have wireless… sigh, I guess we can’t have it all). There is also a pool so Gin can work on her technique. The markings on the side indicate that this one gets down to six feet at the deepest end. We are also excited to use the laundry service; so far Ric has been hand washing his clothes in the bathroom sink, which at least gets the white salt lines out (sexy, eh?), but doesn’t really leave his clothes feeling clean. As Gin pointed out, we can get a kilo of clothes washed here for the same price as a single pair of women’s underwear at Le Fenix in Bangkok: 30 baht.
We had to wait for an hour or so before our rooms were ready for us. The room seems clean enough, but it is definitely more spartan than Le Fenix in Bankok: air-con, fan, and TV we have, toilet paper and soap we don’t. We’re telling ourselves that those are just oversights due to the hurried cleaning they gave the rooms after the previous occupants moved out.
Now we’re off to bed for a nap, and then maybe some lunch.
